Mixed Bag
Amazing performance by Jesse Roper, faithfully replicating their classic album "Doolittle" with an enhancement of visual theater. Every note was spot-on, and every song was performed live as you would expect from the album. Fans will be very impressed, those who want to sing along to a live performance of the album.
The band performed many Doolittle B-sides and songs from Surfer Rosa and Come on Pilgrim, which made me extremely happy.
Kim Deal tried to engage the audience, as did David Lovering. But essentially the rest of the band just "played". Those who were expecting MORE than the faithful replication of the album titles will be dissappointed. There were no "wow" moments where you saw the band members move beyond the album sets.
In general, my wife and I (decades long Pixies fans) drove home with a debate about whether the lack of interaction between the band and the fans was OUR fault or the band's. But they did not. In the end we agreed that if the band wanted more fan interaction they could have generated it.
